Enhanced Oil Recovery: Current Practices & Future Perspectives
Energy Podcast

*Podcast was recorded one day prior to seminar

In this episode, we discussed enhanced oil recovery (EOR) — its history, relevance, and future in Kazakhstan and worldwide. Together with leading experts, we explore how polymer flooding and other EOR techniques help increase recovery efficiency, extend the life of mature fields, and reduce environmental footprint. Our guests discuss global and local experiences, the economics and challenges of EOR implementation, and why early adoption brings tangible benefits. We also touch on technological advances, the growing role of artificial intelligence in field monitoring, and the widening experience gap between younger and senior professionals in the energy sector.

Guests:
Randall S. Seright — Associate Director of the Petroleum Recovery Research Center (New Mexico Tech), world-renowned expert in polymer flooding and reservoir conformance control with over 40 years of experience in EOR, recipient of the SPE/DOE IOR Pioneer Award.
Antoine Thomas — chemical EOR specialist and polymer flood consultant, CEO of eppok and author of Essentials of Polymer Flooding Technique (Wiley), with more than a decade of global project experience.
Marat Sagyndikov — reservoir and EOR engineer, Associate Professor, expert in polymer- flooding, with over 11 years of industrial and research experience in Kazakhstan, recipient of the SPE Regional Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award (2022).

Host:
Abzal Narymbetov — Petroleum and Business Analyst, author of the Energy Analytics Telegram channel and Energy Podcast on YouTube.
